How to write the letter J
Capital J
Line across the top. Line down from the middle of it, hooking left at the bottom.
Lowercase j
Line down from the middle to below the bottom line, hook left, then a dot on top.

How to teach the letter J in 5 minutes
- Say the sound first. Not the name “J” — the sound /dʒ/, as in jam. Play it above and copy it together three times.
- Trace it on the table. Use your finger to trace the capital J and the lowercase j, saying the sound each time.
- Trace it on paper. Do page 1 of the worksheet pack, then write a row of Jj on page 2.
- Find J around you. Books, food labels, road signs — aim for 3 spots, then color the page 3 picture as a reward.
