How to write the letter I

Capital I

Line down, then short lines across the top and the bottom.

Lowercase i

How to teach the letter I in 5 minutes

  1. Say the sound first. Not the name “I” — the sound /ɪ/, as in ink. Play it above and copy it together three times.
  2. Trace it on the table. Use your finger to trace the capital I and the lowercase i, saying the sound each time.
  3. Trace it on paper. Do page 1 of the worksheet pack, then write a row of Ii on page 2.
  4. Find I around you. Books, food labels, road signs — aim for 3 spots, then color the page 3 picture as a reward.
