How to use it

1. Say each sound slowly and notice the mouth moving.
2. Blend and write each word.
3. Point out the different spellings on the Long I page: i_e, igh, ie, y.
4. For more practice on oi/oy and ou/ow, move on to the diphthong worksheets.

Watch out for

• Long i is spelled several ways on one page (bite, right, pie, sky) — expect to point to the letters that make the sound.
• Ow has two sounds (cow, snow); on this page it's the cow sound.
• Bite has a magic e, which comes after the 44 core sounds; right has igh, one of them.
