Tricky Words Worksheet — Phase 4 (Free PDF)
Phase 4 tricky words, write & read.
Tricky words for readers working on blends and longer words — do, through, today, great, of, break.
What’s inside
- An instructions page with the four-step routine.
- One practice page: do, through, today, great, of, break and more.
Every word in this PDF (17)
Handy for checking the list fits your child before printing, or for making your own games.
do, through, today, great, break, pretty, here, beautiful, where, who, fast, why, last, past, again, father, thought
How to use it
- Find the tricky part in each word.
- Write the word from memory and check.
- Group words that share a pattern (great / break).
- Revisit after a week.
Watch out for
- Today is two known words joined — to + day — so only the o in "to" is tricky.
- Through and thought look almost alike — practice them on different days.
- Of is read "uv", not "off" — say it in a phrase (a cup of tea) so it sounds natural.
- Only part of each word is tricky; sound out the regular letters and teach just the odd part by sight.
