CVC Worksheet — Short E (Free PDF)
20 short-e CVC words — read each word out loud, then write it on the line.
Short E is the vowel children blur most often with short i, so this sheet gives it a page of its own with words that are easy to picture.
What’s inside
- An instructions page with the chunk-and-blend method explained.
- One practice page: b-ed, b-eg, b-et, m-et, n-et, p-en and more, each with a line to write the word.
Every word in this PDF (19)
Handy for checking the list fits your child before printing, or for making your own games.
bed, met, beg, net, bet, pen, fed, pet, get, red, hen, jet, ten, leg, vet, let, wed, men, yes
How to use it
- Before reading, say the vowel alone: /e/ as in egg — mouth slightly open, a short "eh".
- Blend each chunk pair and write the word.
- If your child reads "bid" for "bed", stop and compare the two vowel sounds out loud.
- Come back to this page a week later — short e takes longer to settle than a or o.
