- Trickier / Longer Words page.
Every word in this PDF (13)
Handy for checking the list fits your child before printing, or for making your own games.
hat, red, hug, snow, gift, tree, frost, sled, reindeer, candle, present, winter, holiday
How to use it
- Pick the page that fits your child.
- Blend and write each word.
- Use the words to label a holiday drawing.
- Read the whole page aloud as a finale.
Watch out for
- Holiday words change year to year in children's books; add a few of your own to the last page.
- Snow and tree use vowel teams (ow, ee) — a child still on CVC words should stop after the first page.
- Longer holiday words on the last page are meant to be read with help; praise the attempt, not just the right answer.
- Present and cookie have two syllables — clap them before reading.
