CVC Word-Building Pack (Free PDF)

A vowel-choice activity: each word is missing its middle letter, and the child has to hear the word to pick the right vowel — spelling and reading in one step.

What’s inside

• An instructions page with an example: c_b with a, e, o to choose from — circle a, write "cab".
• Five sheets, one per short vowel: Short A (c_b, c_n, c_p…), Short E (b_d, b_g, b_t…), then I, O and U.
• Each line has three vowel choices to circle and a line to write the finished word.

How to use it

1. Say the word for your child ("cab") — they listen for the middle sound.
2. They circle the vowel that makes the word, then write the whole word.
3. Read the finished word together.
4. For a challenge, cover the choices and let them write the vowel with no hints.

Who it’s for

Ages 5–6, late Stage 3, once all five short vowels can be told apart by ear.
