A ten-minute at-home screener in six levels, following the same progression as school phonics checks, to find exactly where to focus next.

What’s inside

  • An instructions page: quiet spot, 10 minutes, work through the levels in order.
  • Level 1 — Single Letter Sounds (s, d, r, w, a, g…: child says the sound, not the name). Level 2 — CVC Decoding (sat, wig, pin, top, hop, cut).
  • Level 3 — Digraphs, Level 4 — Consonant Blends, Level 5 — Long Vowels (magic-e and vowel teams), Level 6 — Pseudo-Words.

How to use it

  1. Work through the levels in order; stop when your child gets several wrong in a row.
  2. Don't help with individual sounds during the check — note where they stall.
  3. The first level that isn't solid is where to focus.
  4. Re-check the same levels in 4–6 weeks.

Who it’s for

Parents of 4–8-year-olds.

Where it fits: Stage 3 — Blending & Segmenting (CVC Words)
