Magic-E Worksheet — Long O (Free PDF)
9 short-o words — add a silent E and write the new long-vowel word (hop → hope), with a word bank on every page to self-check.
Long O with a silent e (o_e) on two pages — hop becomes hope, not becomes note.
What’s inside
- An instructions page.
- Page 1 of 2 — word bank: code, cope, hope, note (hop + e →, not + e →…).
- Page 2 of 2 — word bank: dote, globe, node, slope (dot + e →, glob + e →…).
Every word in this PDF (8)
Handy for checking the list fits your child before printing, or for making your own games.
code, cope, hope, note, dote, globe, node, slope
How to use it
- Read the short word with a short o.
- Add the e and read the long-o word; write it on the line.
- Contrast pairs aloud: hop / hope, rob / robe.
- Talk about meaning: "hop" and "hope" look alike but mean very different things.
Watch out for
- Some o_e words are pronounced differently: come, some and love have an o_e shape but a short u sound — they're tricky words, not magic-e words.
- Glob and dote are less familiar words; explain the meaning so the reading makes sense.
- If hop + e is read as "hop-ee", remind your child the e is silent.
