How to use it

1. Hum the sound: it's n, but made further back.
2. Blend and write each word.
3. Change the first sound to make new words: ring → king → sing.
4. Sting, bring and string start with blends — check the consonant-blend lessons are done.

Watch out for

• Ng is one sound, not n + g — ring has three sounds (r-i-ng), not four.
• Some accents add a hard g at the end (ring-g); either way, the spelling is ng.
• Sting, bring and string need consonant blends — check they've been taught.
