Magic E Worksheet (Free PDF)
18 short-vowel words across A, I, O, and U — add a silent E and write the new long-vowel word, with a word bank on every page to self-check.
A first magic-e worksheet: take a short word, add an e, and read the new long-vowel word — the pattern children love because it feels like a trick.
What’s inside
- Four pages: Short A, Short I, Short O and Short U.
- Each page has a word bank (Short A: cape, hate, made, rate, tape) and prompts like cap + e →, tap + e →.
- The child writes the new long-vowel word on each line.
Every word in this PDF (18)
Handy for checking the list fits your child before printing, or for making your own games.
cape, hate, made, rate, tape, bite, dime, kite, pine, ride, code, cope, hope, note, robe, cube, cute, tube
How to use it
- Read the short word: "cap."
- Add the e and explain: the e is silent, but it makes the a say its name.
- Find the new word in the word bank and write it.
- Read both words aloud, one after the other, to hear the change.
